V. How Will We Use Your Data?

V.1 Data Recording

On the occasion of every access, the following data are recorded and used:

  • IP address
  • site visited (from where the file was requested)
  • date and time of request
  • data transmission volume
  • access status, i.e. an information whether access was successful
  • description of the type of web browser used
  • recognition data of the browser and the operating system used (if transmitted by the requesting web browser)
  • website from which access was made (if transmitted by the requesting web browser)

V.2 Legal basis
Legal basis for recording and using of your data is Article 6 (1) (f) EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

V.3 Purpose of processing
The collected data are processed as follows: An analysis of the log entries is conducted automatically and continuously to identify hack attacks and to be able to react accordingly. If individual cases of malfunctions, errors and security incidents are reported, the analysis will be conducted manually.

The above-mentioned data recording is conducted for in-system and statistical purposes only. The data are analyzed to improve the information offered by the VMZ. They are completely deleted within a period of two weeks. The data will neither be used for other purposes nor disclosed to third parties.

V.4 Storage Periods
If no specific storage duration is specified when the data is collected (e.g. as part of a consent statement), your personal data will be deleted if it is no longer required to fulfill the storage purpose unless legal retention requirements (e.g. retention for commercial or tax-related purposes) mean that this data cannot be deleted.

V.5 Revocability of granted consent statements
If you have granted VMZ consent to process your personal data, you have the right to revoke the granted consent at any time with effect going forward, i.e. revoking your consent does not affect the legitimacy of any processing carried out on the basis of your consent before it was revoked. Once you have revoked your consent, VMZ may only continue to process your personal data if it can do so using a different legal basis.

VI. Contact by Email

VI.1 Data Recording and Processing
If you contact us by email we record and use the data you sent us, typically:

  • email address
  • name
  • address
  • transferring date and time

The VMZ would like to inform the users that complete data security in email communication is strived for but cannot be entirely guaranteed. For transfer of confidential information via e-mail please ask the addressee in advance for data encryption options or use postal services.

VI.2 Transfer and disclosure of personal data
Each day we receive questions and messages concerning traffic in Berlin. Usually we need to contact the administration in charge, Senatsverwaltung für Umwelt, Verkehr und Klimaschutz (Senate department for the environment, transport and climateprotection). In these cases we will transfer your data to that administration and after finishing processing your message we will delete your data.

The VMZ may transfer your personal data to other companies or third parties in connection with your use of the VMZ Online Offerings or our business relationship with you:

VII.1 Google Maps
The functions of the Google Maps service provided by Google LLC, Google Data Protection Office, 1600 Amphitheatre Pkwy, Mountain View, California 94043 are used to display geographical information by visual means. Data (including location and IP address) is transferred to Google LLC whenever Google LLC is used. We should point out that, as website providers, we are unaware of the content of any other data transmitted or used by Google LLC. Google LLC has signed up to the EU-US Privacy Shield (https://www.privacyshield.gov/list) to ensure continued protection of your data under these circumstances.

VIII. Your right

According to the applicable data privacy laws, you have the right, in certain cases, to:

  • request confirmation of whether VMZ is processing your personal data, and obtain information on the personal data processed by VMZ and other details,
  • request that incorrect personal data be corrected,
  • request that personal data processed by VMZ be deleted,
  • request that personal data processed by VMZ be restricted,
  • request that data be transferred, or
  • object to processing of personal data by VMZ.
